Overview

Phenylpiracetam (Phenotropil or Carphedon) or (RS)-2-(2-oxo-4-phenylpyrrolidin-1-yl)acetamide is a racetam derivative of the very first racetam nootropic, differing only by having an additional benzene ring. Reported to be up to 30 – 60 times more potent than its parent, and has been shown to exert more neuroprotective, stimulatory and anti-amnesic properties. While also having a unique ability to improve physical stamina.

Phenylpiracetam has been shown to be a general stimulant, more so than most other racetam nootropics, it is also particularly useful at increasing cold tolerance in physical exercise. Phenylpiracetam is well absorbed by the body, quickly reaching the brain and exerting its effect as a psychostimulant and cognitive enhancer. Some research has even shown a slight anti-depressant effect and some immunosupportive functions.

    Key Findings
    • Shown to reduce cognitive decline from organic causes.[5][6][7][8][9]
    • Up to 60 times more potent than its parent, with strong psychostimulation.[1][2][3]
    • Shown to increase cold resistance, physical and mental stamina.[1][3][4]
    • Shown effective against asthenia (weakness), while reducing anxiety and depression.[6]
    • Some immunosupportive action shown.[10]

    Details

Phenylpiracetam is a phenyl derivative of the parent compound which was the first racetam produced, with purported rapid and easy absorption due to an enhanced lipophilicity.[1] It is up to 60 times more potent than its parent and is claimed to be both mental and physically stimulating, increasing both physical performance and cold resistance.[3] One study showed Phenylpiracetam to be more stimulating, neuroprotective and anti-amnesic than its parent compound.[2] One study found the psychostimulation to be moderately strong with some sleep disturbances reported.[1]

Since its discovery in Russia in the early 1990’s there has been various studies showing its efficacy as a treatment for those suffering from cognitive decline due to organic causes.[5][ 6][7][8][9] Phenylpiracetam is mainly used for asthenia (weakness) but studies have shown a significant reduction in anxiety and depression.[6] One study found that symptoms of depression were attenuated with those suffering from cognitive decline when Phenylpiracetam was given at 100mg twice daily.[6]

In addition to these findings, research has shown that rats injected with Phenylpiracetam showed improved motor functions (velocity and distance).[4]

There is one study showing an immunosupportive function of Phenylpiracetam after immunostress was artificially induced.[10]

How Does Phenylpiracetam Work And Why You Should Buy

    Phenylpiracetam?

Due to Phenylpiracetam being a derivative of the parent, it is assumed to work in the same way as many other racetam like nootropics. Action as a positive allosteric modulator of the AMPA receptor is likely, causing an increase in neuron excitability. There may also be an improved blood flow action, increasing oxygen supply to the brain, further facilitating optimum cognition. NMDA glutamate and ACh receptors activation may also be a part of the mechanism – improving learning and memory while also increasing alertness and energy. As Phenylpiracetam has a marked effect on physical stimulation, the action upon glutamate is probable with further sympathetic mechanisms also implicated.

Using this for a pre-workout. I must say, it does wonders for my endurance. Really gives clear-headed energy to me.

      :

Taking this helps me be at my top condition when I do sports like karate and jiu jitsu. It feels like my movements are much better, I feel lighter and I feel like I can take anyone on. An exaggeration, I know, but that’s how I feel. Really good for my lifestyle.

      :

I feel so intensely focused whenever I take this. It’s like, I’m not my normal jittery self and I can actually finish more work. That is definitely a good thing. Hopefully I can learn to cycle this well so that I won’t build resistance.

      :

I don’t know if it’s the same for others, but oddly enough, when I take this, I feel like I’m able to shed that social awkwardness I usually display in crowds. Like, I can actually talk to people and smile and whatever. I mean, I’m normally an introvert, even right now, posting reviews like these aren’t my thing, but I felt that maybe it could help others out there. Anyway, it’s great.

      :

Being a hyperactive person really drains a lot of energy, pair it up with short attention span will result to an abnormal life style. Phenylpiracetam 150mg per dose helped me gain a better control with my behaviour. Really effective stuff, I can now do stuffs I can’t concentrate on before.

      :

To be honest, I’ve tried all the other racetams, but this is the only racetam that ever really had much of an effect. I’ve tried Anira, Prima, etc, but this is the only one that really worked for me. I recommend it to people with attention problems.
