This substance causes partial inhibition of the neurotransmitter serotonin whilst potentiate dopamine. Compounds having similar profile as PRL-8-53 are expected to cause a significant balance shift of central nervous system transmitter systems which could help in improving intellectual abilities. PRL-8-53 is considered as a nootropic agent that remains to be a research compound to date. It was developed and patented by Dr. Nikolaus Hansl during the 1970s while he was working at Creighton University. The acronym PRL came from its previous patent holder Pacific Research Labs. Please note that there is very little published clinical research done to evaluate the effects and safety of this chemical agent. In another study conducted by Hansl using humans as study subjects, it was revealed that subjects over the age of 30 years responded very well demonstrating a 108 to 152% improvement in retention scores and 31% improvement in acquisition.
